The New Testament begins with Matthew and ends with Revelation. The books of the New Testament contain the guidance and stories from which we should take our current everyday instruction. It includes the stories of Jesus, his life, his death, and his ministry. It also includes his teachings on how we should live our lives. In addition to that, it includes many letters written by the people who knew Jesus and passed along his teachings.
Personally, I would start in the New Testament, and then tackle the Old Testament. I am going to list some good places to learn more about God and what He wants from us now. I'm including links to The Message Version on BibleGateway.com. That way, if you just want to start to learn some of the stories, you can start whenever you're ready. This is NOT a to-do list. Just look through some of the titles and see what sounds interesting. A very good starting place is with the stories of Jesus. :)
Jesus' Whole Story can be found in the first four books of the New Testament - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each of the books are a biography of Jesus written by four of his friends: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. (Easy enough, huh?)
